A very tall “Dandies” cane with gilt metal top on a Malacca cane.  These canes were the ultimate fashion accessories of the time and were often used in paintings as well as at court.  This one has a well chased and rococo decorated top and a  pair of eyelets for the use of a wrist band. This was because most roads were un-made at the time and one didn’t want to drop a cane into the mire!
