Ivory Claw and Head Carving

Date: 1910

Country: Germany

A slightly sinister carving of a girls face, smiling and seemingly at peace centered in a claw or talon which seems to emerge from a fire below. Possibly the rise of the Phoenix from the flames in allegorical form. The ivory top has a German marked silver collar  with an engraved “U24” possible reference to a U-Boat and the letters BHK. The shaft is chestnut and the ferrule horn.
